CompassionateEnd-of-Life Care

As pet lovers ourselves, we understand how difficult and emotional saying goodbye to a beloved pet can be. At Wantage Veterinary Hospital, our end-of-life care services are offered with support, comfort, and respect for your family and your pet. Our team is here to help pet owners understand their options and to guide them in making the decision that feels right for their cherished pet.

When It’s Time to Say Goodbye

It can be difficult to determine when it’s the right time to say goodbye to your loved animal family member, especially if your pet still has good days. Our compassionate team will evaluate your pet’s overall health and day-to-day condition, and will answer your questions in order to help you make a decision. These signs are usually indicators that your pet’s quality of life is in decline and they may be suffering:

  • Your pet has more bad days than good days
  • Your pet experiences chronic pain that cannot be alleviated by medication
  • Your pet has experienced significant weight loss or has stopped eating
  • They are not engaged or aware of their surroundings, or they no longer participate in activities they previously enjoyed without struggling significantly
  • Symptoms like crying out in pain or signs that your pet is consistently in distress or discomfort

In-Office Pet Euthanasia

If you choose in-office euthanasia for your pet, we will help make every step of the journey as comfortable as possible for everyone. Our goal is to help reduce pet anxiety and keep the pet comfortable. If you choose, we can provide a sedative to give to your pet prior to arriving at our office so their car ride to our office is more comfortable.

Once you arrive, you will be in a private room. Our goal is to create a calm and peaceful environment. We will make the room as cozy as possible with blankets and towels on the exam table. Pet owners have the option to be present or not for your pet’s final moments, and are given time to say final goodbyes.

We know this decision is never easy. We’re here to help guide pet pets and answer any questions you may have. Contact us to learn more about our end-of-life care.
