At Wantage Veterinary Hospital, we believe your pets deserve the best, which is why our local staff is committed to providing long-term wellness care for your pets.

In order to be effective, wellness care must be consistent. Your pets should visit the veterinarian regularly from their first few weeks up to their senior years. These visits enable medical professionals to perform diagnostics, thorough exams, and necessary preventive treatment to keep your pets in optimal health throughout their lives.

Annual Wellness Exams

Most adult pets only need one annual wellness exam to get the care they need. At each wellness visit, we perform a complete nose-to-tail exam. We begin by looking for any obvious deformities, growths, areas of discomfort, or other general issues. Our patients can’t verbally tell us when something is wrong, so we take advantage of this time to find those ailments they cannot share.

We spend a good portion of the visit talking to you about your pet’s health and habits. If you’ve noticed anything unusual about your pet’s appetite or behavior, please share it with us during this time. We use this information in conjunction with your pet’s file and diagnostics to get the most complete picture of your pet’s health.

Annual wellness visits often include the following to ensure your pet is up-to-date on any preventives and required care such as:

  • Vaccinations customized to your pet and their unique lifestyle
  • Wellness lab work to alert us to any internal issues
  • Parasite testing, treatment, and control
  • Dental exams
  • Heartworm testing

Senior Wellness Care

Puppy and Kitten Wellness Care

Our senior pets need a little more veterinary attention to deal with age-related issues that tend to develop as they reach their later years. It is not uncommon to see changes in appetite, mobility, or eyesight in senior pets. Wellness visits twice a year with nose-to-tail exams and annual wellness lab work and X-rays can help us catch and treat potential health issues early. We want your senior pets to enjoy the best quality of life for as long as possible.

Puppy and Kitten Wellness Care

Puppy and Kitten Wellness Care

Puppies and kittens bring plenty of laughter and love to a home, but they also need a little extra veterinary attention to ensure they’re starting off on the right paw. A puppy or kitten should have their first wellness visit around eight weeks of age. This gives us a chance to build a health baseline that we can use throughout your pet’s life. It also allows us to provide important exams, vaccines, and parasite control to keep them healthy and happy.

Regular preventive care is an investment in your pet's long-term health and happiness. Schedule a wellness exam or call today to set your pets on the path to a healthy life!
